COHOES – You can learn to do just about anything these days thanks to tutorials and DIY shows. What started out as a “how-to” lesson for one woman has turned into a dream come true.

Renel Turner loved to watch baking TV shows, and videos about baking online.

More and more baking shows led to more and more treats for friends and family.

The hobby was quickly turning into a desire – should she or shouldn’t she open her own bakery.

Time went by until July of this year, when all the ingredients suddenly appeared – including finding an empty bakery on Remsen Street in Cohoes. She turned it into Nelly’s Treats Boutique Bakery.

Besides cakes, she has cupcakes, cookies and specialty cakes.

Turner marvels to think a TV baking show helped turned her dreams into a reality, but hopes her story inspires other women to have their cake and eat it too.

Take a look at some of her creations, by watching the video of Elaine Houston’s story.
