Wrong-way Northway driver blamed in head-on crash

LAKE GEORGE – Two motorists were rushed to area hospitals Tuesday night after a terrifying wrong-way head-on collision on the Adirondack Northway, two miles north of Exit 20.

The crash occurred at the height of the evening rush hour, around 5:15 pm.

State police say 59-year-old Cynthia Murphy was traveling southbound in the northbound lane, when she crashed head-on with a car driven by 35-year-old Jamie Yard of Lake George.

Yard was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. Murphy was taken to nearby Glens Falls Hospital. Both are expected to be okay.

There is no word on if drugs or alcohol played a role.
