Young boy gets new ear in amazing surgery

Luca Vacchio, 5, was born without a left ear. It’s a rare condition, happening in one out of 2,500 babies.

Luca’s parents found Dr. Nicholas Bastidas at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

Bastidas is the only surgeon in the world to use cadaver tissue to build ears.

After a 90 minute surgery, Luca had a new, cosmetic ear.

The next part of the surgery will make it fully functional.
