The Albany Empire of the National Arena League fired head coach Tom Menas after practice Thursday.

The Empire’s season begins on April 16.

Menas has only been in Albany for two years, but he’s won back-to-back championships.

Owner Antonio Brown says he wants to take the organization in a different direction.

Menas told Rodger Wyland he was surprised by the decision.

“I’m a little heartbroken because I really thought that I could lead this team to a three-peat this year,” Means said.

Offensive coordinator Damon Ware will serve as the team’s interim coach.
