Shenendehowa’s varsity softball team left for Long Island on Thursday morning, without a few key players on the bus.
As NewsChannel 13 has been reporting, it’s due to a scheduling conflict with the senior prom.
Seven Shenendehowa softball seniors are choosing the prom over New York state championships this weekend on Long Island.
Shen plays New Rockland on Friday at 3:30 in the state semifinals. Seven seniors, including Kelsey Higgins, one of the top players in the area, won’t be with the team.
The seniors were willing to play on Friday, but if they won, they were coming back to Clifton Park and not playing on Saturday.
Director of Athletics Chris Cullnan did not give them a choice. They were either all in or they were all out.
If Shen wins on Friday in the state semifinals, they will play for the state title on Saturday at noon.
