Albany High student looks to defend haircutting title

Albany High student Elijah Temple looks to define his title at a Skills USA competition.

He was the first New Yorker to win a gold medal for his skills as a barber and now Elijah Temple is looking for another win.

The Albany High School student came in first place at last year’s New York State Skills USA competition just over a year after he first started cutting hair. Now, Temple is competing again.

If he wins again this week, he heads to the next level of competition in Atlanta in June.

NewsChannel 13 asked him what it takes to be a gold medal-winning barber.
