Prosecutors said he used a buck knife to stab Michael Jones, 32, in the chest while both were incarcerated at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
A co-defendant, Steven Smith, 60, of North Carolina, is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty, earlier this year.
