Pair face drug charge after stop

Pair face drug charges after stop in Albany County in the area of Grand Street and Park Avenue.

Two Albany men were arrested Monday on drug and weapons charges.

Albany County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the driver, Isaiah E. Matos, 25, and passenger, Ar-Rahiim R. Nixson, 23, in the area of Grand Street and Park Avenue at around 1 p.m.

Police found a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic firearm. Neither man had the legal right to possess a firearm.

Also, Matos and Nixson had over seven ounces of cannabis and a quantity of Oxycodone, police said. 

They were each charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis. Matos also was cited for a traffic violation.

They were scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Albany City Court.
