Albany stabbing murder suspects arraigned
ALBANY — Two men accused in a bloody and violent stabbing attack on Washington Avenue in Albany in June were arraigned in Albany County Court.
The two suspects, who authorities say are both in the country illegally, are facing charges of murder, as well as gang assault.
24-year-old Marco Reyes-Lopez was brought in from the jail, shackled. He appeared before Judge Roger McDonough in Albany County Court with an interpreter at his side.
27-year-old Javier Martinez-Reyes was also in court.
The two suspects were arraigned about a week and a half ago on a pending indictment, then the grand jury took action.
“The court was notified by the people with defense council present on that date, the people wanted to supersede that indictment or intended to supersede that indictment,” said the judge. “It’s my understanding, Mr. Lydon, that you’ve done so, is that correct?”
“The June term of the grand jury of the county of Albany handed up a two-count indictment charging the defendant Javier Martinez Reyes in the first count with murder in the second degree,” said Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty.
Police say at Washington Avenue and Quail Street in Albany at about 3:45 a.m. on June 3, they found a man who had been stabbed in the back, and nearby on Washington, they found 24-year-old Abel Vasques-Bautista with many stab wounds. He died from his injuries.
That day there was a bloody trail on the sidewalk, the stoop, and a front door. The violence was possibly caught on one of the surveillance cameras nearby.
Marco said he was not employed before his arrest. Javier said he was working at a local pizza place.
Both men gave their address as the same place on Hudson Avenue.
They’re both expected back in court July 26 at 11 a.m.
