The Amsterdam Greater School District said its 6th through 12th grade classrooms will be cellphone free.

All cellphones, smartwatches and earbuds will be placed in a special pouch given to each student, the district said.  The pouches will be kept locked during the school day.

The district said it’s doing this because students are distracted when they use phones in the classroom.
