Bear raids bird feeder in Wilton

A hungry bear came a little too close for comfort for a woman in Wilton Friday morning.

It happened on Route 50 a couple miles north of Wilton Mall. An employee of April Fresh Cleaning happened to look out the window and see the animal looking for breakfast. The bear was about 4 to 4 ½ feet tall, they said. It didn’t stick around long.

The owner of the business said they brought in the bird feeders afterward, so the animal didn’t come back for more.

People should remove bird feeders starting in April, suggested the Department of Environmental Conservation, because birds have no trouble finding their own food.
