Capital Region fundraiser for River Arts District in Asheville, NC

COLONIE, N.Y. (WNYT)- A group of Capital Region musicians will be performing at a fundraiser to benefit the River Arts District in Asheville, North Carolina.

“Mission Possible-Music With a Mission” was organized by Perley Rousseau, jazz vocalist of the Sonny and Perley Quintet, who says money raised will go to White Horse, Black Mountain, a non-profit organization in North Carolina with a venue where local artists are featured, according to their website.

“The hurricane has been tough on the entire city of Asheville, but it has hit the arts community especially hard,” Rousseau said. “We hope that through our music, we can bring people together and raise funds to help the artists and musicians get back on their feet.”

Asheville was an area in North Carolina hit particularly hard by flooding caused from Hurricane Helene at the beginning of October. One woman talked to NewsChannel 13’s Steve Kuzj about her and her daughter leaving Asheville to stay with extended family after their community was destroyed.

The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, November 10 at Margarita City in Colonie from 2-7 p.m. Admission is $20 at the door.

Lineup for “Mission Possible-Music With a Mission” includes The Sonny and Perley Jazz Quintet, The McKrells, Shine Hill Road, The Kid’s Peace Pan Band, Franklin Micare, Cosmo’s Moon, vocalists Jeanine Ouderkirk, Laura Roth, Bronte Roma and Donna Trunzo as well as Hip Hop music recording artist Manchild Jones,  Banjo Bert and Friends. Local artist Judi Silvano will have a live improvisational painting.
