Ex-State Police sergeant gets probation for forcibly touching 11-year-old girl

A former State Police sergeant was sentenced on Wednesday to 6 years of probation for touching an 11-year-old girl who was at Handy’s home for a sleepover.

Chad Handy, of Fulton County, was charged with a misdemeanor charge of forcible touching for the Dec. 31, 2019 incident. The allegations were initially disclosed to police last August.

Handy was facing a maximum of one year in jail. He negotiated a plea deal in Oppenheim Town Court that spared the victim from testifying.

Handy also must register as a sex offender and undergo alcohol abuse treatment.

Handy worked for State Police at the Mayfield station. He retired immediately after the allegations surfaced.

The case was investigated by State Police in Latham and handled by a special prosecutor in Montgomery County.

Fulton County Child Protective Services is also investigating.
