Catholic Charities of Albany teamed up with Coldwell Banker Prime Properties to serve lunch to people in need.
Spaghetti and meatballs was served at St. John’s and St. Ann’s Outreach in Albany.
In 2023, 21% of people living in Albany reported being food insecure. That’s compared to 10% of people across the state.
The event is part of an annual day of volunteering in the city of Albany.
“Folks who live in poverty or struggle with food insecurity don’t have a chance to come in and sit down and be served a meal,” said Sr. Betsy Van Deusen, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Capital Region. “And so here they are welcomed to the table and they come in and they sit down and are served a meal. So our volunteers are making that possible.
They get about 100 to 140 people at this event every year.
St. John’s/St. Ann’s Outreach Center has served Albany’s South End since 1976. Its food pantry feed around 600 people each month.
