Granville man arrested for DWI facing drugs, weapons charges

GRANVILLE, N.Y. (WNYT)- Robert Gimmler III, 33 from Granville is facing multiple charges that include driving while under the influence of alcohol, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, according to Mechanicville Police.

Gimmler was arrested after police received a call for suspicious activity in the area of 77 South Central Ave. Friday morning, police said.

While investigating police said they observed Gimmler driving a vehicle while appearing under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Further investigation revealed Gimmler had a loaded illegal handgun and considerable amounts of crack/power cocaine and methamphetamine.

Gimmler was charged with:

  • 1st degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • 2nd degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
  • Operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs
  • DWI
  • Drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle
