Hebron brush fire grows to 3.5 acres before being extinguished

A campfire got out of control in Washington County on Saturday, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A forest ranger responded to assist local firefighters with a brush fire on Higgins Road around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The fire grew to 3.7 acres before being contained, DEC said.

The agency is advising people to prepare and plan before entering the backcountry.
