Task force proposed to decide how to spend cannabis tax money
Two Albany County legislators are proposing a task force to decide how revenue from the cannabis sales tax should be sent.
Sam Fein and Beroro Efekoro said the task force will be dedicated to making sure that communities that were hit hardest by the War on Drugs receive the support and resources they need to thrive.
It will include people with expertise in the cannabis industry, public health, social justice, and economic development.
The proposal includes setting aside the cannabis tax revenue into a dedicated fund to be used to address economic and racial disparities.
The 2024 county budget projects $200,000 in revenue.
