Mechanicville man hurt after train strikes dump truck

A Mechanicville man is recovering after the dump truck he was driving was struck by a train.

The crash happened at around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday in the town of Halfmoon. Michael Minick, 56, was driving a 2016 CAT dump truck while he failed to yield the right of way, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said.

He was struck by a Berkshire & Eastern train operated on rail lines owned by Canadian Pacific Kansas City, police said.

Minick had hip and head injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The train crew was not injured in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
