Hibernians spruce up flags for St. Patrick’s Day

As folks gear up for St. Patrick’s Day – one local group that celebrates their Irish heritage all year round, is sprucing up the sights in the spa city.

New Irish flags are now waving proudly outside the city’s downtown Irish-themed pub, The Parting Glass.

This is thanks to some help from The Ancient Order of Hibernians.

The idea started when a member noticed the bar’s flags had gotten a little worn out while on a walk, and the club asked owners if they could help.

“It’s a community thing, and that’s what’s important to us. It’s not always about what your heritage is or what your religion is or who you are, but it’s about your condition,” said John Neeley, the President Of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. “That’s how we try to act with the public is to reach out and try to help them however we can.”

There are six chapters of the ancient order of Hibernians in the Capital Region, and more than 40,000 members nationwide.
