Police: Amsterdam man fired gun at person on sidewalk

An Amsterdam man is accused of shooting at a man on the sidewalk last month.

Travis Smith, 49, allegedly was on the front porch and fired a handgun at another man during a dispute, Amsterdam Police said. The incident took place on April 16 around 11 a.m. in the area of West Main Street and Bayard Street.

The bullet did not strike the intended victim but hit a home.

Smith left the scene and relocated to Brooklyn. He was arrested on Wednesday with the assistance of U.S. Marshals.

Smith was charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and sent without bail to Montgomery County Jail.
