Police: Greenport town employee didn’t document building inspections

A former employee for the town of Greenport is accused of receiving money from businesses for building inspections that he did not document.
State Police arrested Cory M. Birk, 38, of Catskill, last week on four counts of official misconduct and four counts of petit larceny.
Birk worked from the town from March 2022 until April 2024 as its building inspector and code enforcement officer.
The investigation dates to May of last year. Town officials notified police that Birk was receiving cash payments for inspections that he failed to document. They occurred between January and March 2024, according to police.
Birk was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Greenport Town Court on March 31.
