Police remove eight unregistered vehicles removed from Albany County roads

Investigators have removed eight unregistered vehicles from the Albany County roadways after an investigation into fraudulent license plates.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles worked together on an enforcement detail. The goal was to remove vehicles that had switched and fraudulent license plates, police said.

The vehicles are considered by law enforcement to be “ghost cars.” They are often used in violent crimes such as burglaries and shootings and the identity of the vehicle owners is unknown, police said.
