Radio station 103.9 The Breeze ditches soft music for new format

A Capital Region radio station has switched from older soft rock to more upbeat modern hits as “Zoey 103.9.”

The station was formerly known as “The Breeze” and had played softer songs since 2019. It made the switch to the new format at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, after playing “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC.

The new format includes much more upbeat music than before, more current artists like Harry Styles, Beyonce and Rhianna and a sprinkle of some older music from artists such as the Backstreet Boys.

The station is owned by Townsquare Media. The same company also owns several other Capital Region radio stations, including 107.7 WGNA, Q105.7/103.5 and Hot 99.1.

For the past several years, 103.9 was the first Capital Region radio station to flip to Christmas music, right after Halloween. NewsChannel 13 has reached out to the station to ask if that will continue under the new format. We’re waiting to hear back.
