Rensselaer County getting federal boost to fight crime
Rensselaer County is getting a boost in funding because of its designation as a high-trafficking area.
The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office is eligible for a boost in funding after being designated as a high-intensity drug trafficking area.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer announced that the Office of National Drug Control Policy has granted the county’s request to become a federally designated zone. That makes it eligible to receive more equipment, technology and additional intelligence resources.
Rensselaer County has seen spikes in overdoses throughout this year, including several that were deadly.
