Saratoga Springs ‘Code Blue’ shelter helps nearly 300 people during winter season

Saratoga ‘Code Blue’ shelter protected dozens from winter chill

The Shelters of Saratoga had a successful “Code Blue” season this winter, they said.

The Saratoga Springs “Code Blue” Shelter helped nearly 300 people facing homelessness this past winter season.

The shelter opened for the season in October, when temperatures dipped below 32 degrees. The facility’s 75 cots were full within two weeks opening, despite warmer-than-normal weather, according to a statement from the organization.

Shelters of Saratoga staff helped 30 guests successfully move into housing and 26 guests transitioned into longer-term shelter with support services at the emergency shelter program on Walworth Street or the RISE Housing and Support Services’ Adelphi Street Shelter.

The shelter served 11,560 meals and was open 171 nights. A total of 41 guests stayed one day, 110 guests stayed 2 to 15 days, 32 guests stayed 16 to 30 days.

There were 30 guests who stayed 61 to 90 days and 38 guests stayed more than 90 days.

The shelter wrapped up its 10th season on April 26.
