Sprinklers could soon be required in new homes. This idea has sparked controversy in the past.

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York thinks this is a good idea.

The first vice president of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York wrote in a blog that adding sprinklers to new family homes is critical to saving both the lives of residents and firefighters.

However, requiring sprinklers adds an extra cost for home buyers, according to the National Association of Homebuilders.

The New York State Association of Realtors is also against it, saying it should be up to the home buyer not a state mandate.

The Albany Business Review says this draft could become final in June.
