Two Amsterdam residents arrested on drug charges

Two Amsterdam residents are accused possessing cocaine and prescription pills.

Amsterdam Police Department searched an apartment on Division Street as part of an investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics in the city. In addition to the drugs, police said officers found drug paraphernalia.

T’keyah T. Hunt, 27, was located in the apartment, and police found Israel Sharpe, 23, walking on Division Street. They were both wanted on warrants after police said they sold a controlled substance to a police source during the investigation.

Hunt and Sharpe were each charged with felony counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance. They are also facing two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

They were arraigned in Amsterdam City Court.

Sharpe, who is currently on parole, was held at $20,000 cash bail.

Hunt was released on her own recognizance to appear at a later court date.
