Union: Albany Med nurse disciplined for raising staffing issues

Nurses at Albany Medical Center say staffing practices are unsafe and unfair

Nurses at Albany Medical Center voice their concerns about alleged unsafe and unfair staffing practices.

The New York State Nurses Association said a nurse at Albany Medical Center is facing discipline for raising concerns about whether or not the hospital’s new staffing schedule provided enough nurses to safely care for sick babies. The nurse worked at Albany Medical Center for 13 years, they said.

The Nurses Association said this nurse spoke about the staff conditions at a press conference. She is not the only one who faced retaliation for speaking out about patient safety, they said.

Albany Medical Center responded to NewsChannel 13 by saying they cannot comment on disciplinary actions. They said though that they are safely staffed and that they value their nurses more than anyone, and that’s why they want to get this contract done.
