Jasmine Norman has been appointed as the new judge for Watervliet City Court.

Mayor Charles Patricelli selected Norman to replace Peter Torncello, who is retiring.

Norman has a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in government from Smith College and a law degree from SUNY Buffalo Law School. She currently works as deputy general counsel litigator for the New York State Office of Cannabis Management.

Norman has served in two positions in the city before this appointment.

“I found Jasmine to be quite interesting, well-spoken and caring. I was impressed with her work on the Police Review Board, so I appointed her to the Watervliet Board of Ethics, where she is currently serving. The City of Watervliet is fortunate to have had two great attorneys living in the city to fill this position,” Patricelli said in a statement.

Norman will be sworn in for a six-year term, when Torncello retires in August.

She will join Thomas Lamb on the city court bench. Lamb has spent more than three decades as a family court judge.
