It will soon be a little easier to become a teacher in New York state.

The Board of Regents voted Tuesday to remove a national assessment exam as a requirement for certification.

The change goes into effect April 27.

The exam known as the edTPA requires a portfolio of work, video recordings of classroom instruction, lesson plans, and reflections on classroom practices.

During the pandemic, the New York State Education Department has allowed teaching candidates to take a written exam instead.
