I was in front of my classroom full of 7th grade students in Pittsfield. We just had an active shooter drill about 30 minutes before when I received the email from East Greenbush school district that my kids (Grade 5 & Kindergarten) were in lockdown. I couldn't help it and started crying a little and one of my students hugged me. It made me so upset that we have to live in a world where this is the reality for our kids. Something has to change!!!

Can we take a moment to be thankful that these schools are being proactive and going in to lock down to prevent the issue from entering the school? It's very scary for us parents to think about even so much as the threat of an active shooter, but I'm very thankful that the schools jump in to action and have a plan in place for these situations.

My Heart sank. I became numb and yet frantic all at the same time. I ran to get my keys and jump in my car when my phone rang and it was to notify me that it was false. I burst into tears with relief and anger at the same time. This isn't right! We as parents shouldn't have to fear like this when we send our babies to school. Hugging them in the morning wondering if this is the last time we will see them alive. Is this the last hug? The last kiss? The last I love you have a great day? The last time hearing "I love you mommy" Enough is enough!

Hopefully whoever is behind the widespread swatting calls, wasting valuable resources and frightening children, teachers and parents are caught! This is NOT something to joke about or prank, especially in light of many school shootings. I don't care if it's a minor being "funny" by doing this, they should be charged as an adult and with the highest punishment possible! 😡😡

We have a child at Maple Hill. Without knowing what was going on he typed MOM I love you. Every time I’ve watched a terrible school shooting on the news I think my god, what would I think? Now I know. You just pray it isn’t real. You feel helpless. And then you feel sheer terror. Prayers to all of the families that this affected.

I have to ask, is it really appropriate to be on school campus when there are lockouts? There's a headline "children are frightened" and the first thought is let's get the camera crew in there, let's really ramp up the fear?

Yes. I experienced a panic attack for the first time in my life.

When are they going to start having some type of security at schools? Obviously locking all the doors isn’t working out that well nor the 300 gun laws . Perfect job for our Veterans. Prayers for the world we live in

Panicked, frustrated, and so, so sad that this is still happening. My kids are 6 and 8 years old. They're both on lockout for the rest of the day. It's terrifying being a parent these days. When will real change happen?

Yes granddaughter. And yes I went and sat in my car. Very scary. Hope if they catch this person who did this. They punish hard. Set an example so others will think twice about doing some stupid joke they think.

I can’t imagine how this feels, my heart goes out to all the parents and families who had kids in one of these schools. I’m grateful to be a homeschooler.

My son just turned 2 and I’m already doing research about home school. I’m terrified of what schools will be like when he reaches that age.

This HAS to end !!!! I am furious !!! Let's stop worrying about banning books and worry more about protecting our children!!! I'm highly considering home schooling after this because at least I'll know my kids won't be gunned down at home !!!!

My kids were both scared and anxious, my daughter reported not able to focus. They were allowed to come home. I was ok until I knew the kids were home, then it hit me…what if it were a real active shooter? You just don't know if threats are credible or not.

My stepdaughter and niece were in 2 of the schools. Both are ok. My daughter is very shook up. This is terrifying! As a parent, I feel so helpless when they get on those buses. This is supposed to be a safe place for my kids to be. I agree with Steve T'ee completely on this one.

Pure panic. I’ve never felt a fight or flight response like this in my life. This is not the world I want for our children.

I have a senior and freshman. I got very anxious at first and desperately wanted to just go grab them. I am thankful the school is on alert and does what's necessary to protect our children but it is scary to know it could be anyone of our children in danger 😢
