Partnership gives Scotia-Glenville student free college education, job

Capital Region BOCES and one of its business partners are teaming up to give a Scotia-Glenville High School teenager a free college education, and a job.

Allison Umstadter will be attending the Advanced Manufacturing Program at Hudson Valley Community College tuition-free thanks to her training in the Manufacturing and Machining Technology program, and her work-based learning at Greno Industries in Scotia.

Greno will not only pay for Allison’s tuition, books and supplies for Hudson Valley, but will also pay her a salary to attend classes.

Greno is one of more than 300 businesses and organizations that partner with Capital Region BOCES in support of students.

"It’s amazing, a dream come true. It’s what I have always wanted," Allison said.

She is one of 14 students in the Manufacturing and Machining Technology program, which teaches students design and prototype skills, as well as how to troubleshoot design problems. Students also learn how to operate everything from drill presses to the 3D printers.
