UAlbany announced on Wednesday they are hiring 27 new professors specializing in artificial intelligence.

The university calls the mass hiring unprecedented, saying the new faculty will be teaching and researching in all the school’s departments, regardless of major.

It will be called the AI Academy, and the new hires are funded in part by a $5.2 million grant from the state.

UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez calls it a “transformational moment,” and says the school is determined to make the Capital Region the epicenter of next generation AI.
