15 buildings across New York state, including the Empire State Plaza and State Education Building, are lit in red tonight.
It’s part of the nationwide “Light the Night” week for firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Saratoga Springs Assistant Chief Aaron Dyer says it’s an honor to be recognized, and it’s personal for many firefighters.
“I knew a lot of people that unfortunately lost their lives during 9/11.” Dyer told us. “I’ve also worked with some coworkers through the years that have unfortunately lost their lives through job related injuries”
The 25th Annual Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial Ceremony will be held on October 11 at the Empire State Plaza. This year’s ceremony will honor eleven firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty.
