COHOES – A $500,000 grant has been secured to help reopen the Cohoes Public Library.
The library had to close last year after part of an exterior wall collapsed on the sidewalk.
The Cohoes Senior Center was used as the temporary library.
Engineers went to work on emergency restoration. This allowed for a partial re-opening of the building.
However, the main floor of the library remains closed because there is additional work that needs to be done. The $500,000 grant will be used to restore and make improvements to the library when it fully reopens.
There is no timetable yet on when that reopening will happen, but Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler says they are hoping to move as soon as possible.
