A woman loses thousands of dollars in equipment after large fire
A large fire broke out a garage Sunday morning in the Town of East Greenbush.
The Clinton Heights Fire Department responded to Highland View Avenue in Prospect Heights around 4 a.m. Sunday.
“I saw typical flames that you might see from a movie, you know,” said the homeowner’s boyfriend Sean.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with the Public Information Officer for the Clinton Heights Fire Department Seth Tracy.
“Our members went to work right away. Knocking down the fire, which was, pretty heavily involved in the garage,” Tracy said.
Crews were working on the 2nd alarm fire for about three hours, but firefighters said they had most of the fire under control within 20 minutes.
Firefighters contained the damage from the flames to the garage, preventing the home from having serious damage.
“Our guys did a really good job very quickly of knocking down the fire and keeping the damage to the rear, to the home, just to the exterior,” said Tracy.
DeAnna Wedge was asleep with her boyfriend inside her home at the time, when one of her dogs started barking.
“Definitely grateful that, you know, my dog was here to wake us up, and my boyfriend was here to panic and help us survive. So, without him and my dog. I wouldn’t be here. I don’t think,” Wedge said.
Wedge estimates she lost over twenty thousand dollars in equipment that was in the garage.
“I do carpentry in my spare time, so I had a lot of a lot of power tools in there. Some couches and a brand-new bathtub that I was putting in the bathroom that I’m remodeling inside, and that’s gone,” said Wedge.
The family has set up a Go Fund Me page to donate to them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Zach Richter spoke with the family and will have more on this story tonight at 9 & 11.
