Albany County sheriff’s car struck while responding to report of a stolen vehicle

An Albany County sheriff’s car was struck while responding to a call about a stolen vehicle at Albany International Airport, police said.

The crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Albany Shaker Road and Watervliet Shaker Road in Colonie.

The sheriff’s car was traveling southeast on Albany Shaker Road with its emergency lights on, attempting to turn left into the airport, when it was hit by another vehicle traveling northwest.

The airbags deployed in both cars and both drivers were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
