MLK Day is designated as a National Day of Service that encourages Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

Doctor King was a civil rights activist in the sixties known for his “I have a dream” speech.

He was assassinated in Memphis in 1968.

In Albany – to observe the holiday – you can walk in the community march that begins at the Madison Ave entrance to the Empire State Plaza concourse.

The march begins at 11 in the morning and will conclude at the Doctor King monument in Lincoln Park with a wreath laying ceremony.

CDTA will provide a shuttle for anyone unable to walk to the memorial and back.
