Albany man, 18, punched woman, stole vehicle

An 18-year-old Albany man has been arrested for allegedly carjacking a woman. Antonio Guynup approached the 30-year-old victim in the area of Washington Avenue and Quail Street around 2 a.m. on Monday. He punched her in the face multiple times before stealing her vehicle, Albany Police said. The victim had cuts to her eye and chin. She was treated on scene and taken to Albany Memorial Hospital.

Antonio Guynup approached the 30-year-old victim in the area of Washington Avenue and Quail Street around 2 a.m. on Monday. He punched her in the face multiple times before stealing her vehicle, Albany Police said.

The victim had cuts to her eye and chin. She was treated on scene and taken to Albany Memorial Hospital.

An officer saw Guynup driving the victim’s vehicle in the area of Myrtle Avenue and South Pine Street. Guynup allegedly refused to stop and got out of the vehicle while it was still moving. It crashed in the area of Morris Street and Patridge Street. Guynup was arrested nearby.

Guynup was charged with robbery, grand larceny, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment as well as traffic violations.

He was arraigned in Albany City Court and sent to Albany County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
