Albany man gets 3 ½ to 7 years in prison for auto stripping

An Albany man has been sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison for stealing wheels and tires from several area car dealerships.

Sherman Chambers, 50, previously pleaded guilty in Albany County Court to charges of grand larceny and auto stripping.

Chambers stole four wheels and tires from a vehicle at Lia Honda on April 16 and also at Nemer Volkswagen on Aug. 20, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. He also targeted Audi Albany on both Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, prosecutors said.

Chambers was sentenced as a predicate felon due to his past criminal record, which includes convictions for criminal possession of stolen property and drug conviction.
