Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan has issued a proclamation in observance of Juneteenth.

Sheehan announced that the red, black, and green, black liberation flag will be raised Monday in front of Albany City Hall.

All non-essential city of Albany departments will be closed on Monday to celebrate.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S. The holiday celebrates African American freedom and achievement.
