Albany Med: ‘last and best’ contract proposal sent to nurses union
Albany Med tells NewsChannel 13 it has presented the last and best contract proposal to the nurses’ union.
The hospital and the union have been in a battle over a new contract for more than seven months now.
Ahead of press conference Wednesday morning to discuss the proposal in more details, a video was sent to the hospital’s nurses.
Albany Med’s CEO Dr. Dennis McKenna said the hospital has negotiated in good faith with the New York State Nurses Association since April.
Mckenna said the union’s refusal to bring the contract to a vote is keeping money out of nurses’ pockets.
“Unfortunately, NYSNA has not allowed this proposal to move forward for a vote,” he said in the video.
Albany Med said it has proposed to the nurses’ union significant base hourly wage increases and higher starting pay for newly licensed nurses.
McKenna is placing the blame on the union in the video saying the union is the one who is holding up a contract deal. “This principal is at the heart of NYSNA’s delaying of finalizing your market adjustments.”
He said the union insisted that Albany Med become a closed union shop. This would require every nurse to pay dues to the union as a condition of employment at Albany med.
McKenna says the proposal needs to be accepted by Dec. 9.
NewsChannel 13 reached out to the union for comment but did not receive a response.
