Person in critical condition after being struck by illegal dirt bike in Albany

NewsChannel 13 is learning of a pedestrian-auto accident that happened on the 400 block of Hudson Avenue in Albany.

Police tell us that it happened early Saturday morning around midnight.

Albany Police responded to Hudson Avenue for a report of someone being struck by a dirt bike, which upon arrival, they located an 18-year-old female in the roadway with a serious head injury and a fractured leg.

Authorities say after further investigation, it is known that multiple witnesses stated that they saw a male driving an illegal dirt bike at a high rate of speed, while weaving in and out of groups of people in the roadway.

Police say the suspect struck the victim at a high rate of speed, which the victim was thrown in the air and landed in the roadway several feet away from the initial impact.

The suspect fled the scene after the incident, said police.

Authorities say the victim was treated on scene by Emergency Medical personnel and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
