Albany Police arrest 16-year-old for possession of handgun

Police arrested a 16-year-old male Friday night for possession of a handgun following an incident in Albany.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Elizabeth Street and Second Avenue.

Authorities tried to stop a group of people at the bus stop, in reference to a call they received about a half hour prior about a weapon in the area of Clare Avenue and Second Avenue.

When officers approached the group, the 16-year-old fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by police.

Police recovered a loaded 0.22 caliber ghost handgun.

Albany Police said the 16-year-old male was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned and remanded to Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility and will appear in Albany County Family Court at a later date.
