Albany Police investigate overnight shooting

1 man was shot and is now in the hospital.

Albany Police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday morning in Madison Park.

Police responded around 4 a.m. to Madison Avenue and Ontario Street for reports of shots fired.

“When we were driving, coming back in the area, we heard three shots going off,” one neighbor said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Investigation has revealed so far that two individuals had exchanged gunfire with each other in the park, which resulted in one of them being struck, said police.

Authorities said the male was treated on the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he is in stable condition.

NewsChannel 13 spoke with Jadyn Turner who lives right down the block from where the shooting happened. She said she heard about eight gun shots.

“I was actually up watching TV, and I had my windows open and all the sudden I heard a, like, a bunch of gunshots all the way down there. And at first, I was like, oh, maybe like somebody set off some fireworks. But then I heard somebody else outside screaming,” Turner said.

Albany Police said the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Albany Police Detective Division at 518-462-8039.
