Albany Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the area of Ontario Street and First Street at around 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found evidence of gunfire.

The victim, 34-year-old Ashad Cooper, was transported to Albany Medical Center by another person and was pronounced dead.

Police said the victim was involved in several fights throughout the day and was shot in the neck by an unknown suspect.

While officers were at the Ontario Street scene, police received a call reporting a man with a gunshot wound walking into Albany Medical Center.

The investigation remains active and ongoing and anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the Albany Police Detective Division at 518-462-8039.
