Albany teen accused of gun possession

Albany Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy on a weapons charge.

Officers responded to the area of Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue around 9:15 a.m. on Thursday for reports of a person with a weapon. Detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Community Response Unit observed a youth matching the description of the suspect.

After a brief foot chase, the teen was taken into custody in the 300 block of Orange Street. He had a loaded 9mm handgun and a quantity of crack cocaine, police said.

The 15-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Albany County Family Court.
