Albany sex offender heads back to prison for escaping federal custody
An Albany sex offender has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for escaping from federal custody.
Samuel Rodriguez, 48, was directed by the Bureau of Prisons to reside in an Albany hallway house last November. On Nov. 11, 2022, he had permission to leave the residence to update his sex offender registration with the police department. However, he never returned, according to a news release form the U.S. Attorney’s office.
A week later, he voluntarily surrendered to the New York State Police station in Auburn.
Rodriguez is a Level 3 sex offender – the highest risk for reoffending. He served a 3-year prison sentence in Texas, according to the New York sex offender registry.
