Albany woman charged in fatal stabbing

An Albany woman is facing a murder charge after a man was stabbed to death Friday afternoon.

Police responded to South Mall Towers on South Pearl Street at 4:45 p.m. for a report of a person with a weapon. When they got there, officers fund James West, 58, in an eighth-floor hallway with a stab wound to the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation led police to Kyisha Smith, 41, who they found in an apartment in the building. Smith and West knew each other, said police, and had been fighting.

Smith is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
