Altamont woman killed after crashing into Schroon River

An Altamont woman has died after her car crashed into Schroon River.

A kayaker came upon the car upside down in the river on Sunday afternoon, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

The Horicon fire dive team extricated the woman, Kaitlin Goldberg, 23, from her car. She was alone, they said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Goldberg had previously been reported missing after not arriving at a family camping trip and not being home.

The sheriff’s department determined she was driving south on Schroon River Road, when her car drove off the road and turned over in the river, they said.

They estimate the car was in the water for about 24 hours, as it could not be seen from the road.
